Wake Technical Community College is committed to equality of educational opportunity and does not discriminate against applicants or students based on race, religion, color, national origin, sex, age, or handicap.
Dual Enrollment Program for High School Students
GUIDELINES AND BASIC INFORMATION
- A dual enrollment high school student must be at least sixteen years old before the first day of class to participate in the program. The student must be enrolled at least half time (3 or more high school courses, 2 or more courses if on block schedule) in high school to participate. Students may dual enroll for the summer semester only if they will be returning to high school at least half time during the fall.
- The student must complete a Wake Technical Community College Admission Application
. The program name on the application should be “Dual Enrollment”, the code is T90980.
- Students are required to take the COMPASS placement test to ensure they are prepared to take college-level courses. COMPASS placement testing can be waived if the student has taken the SAT or ACT and meets minimum scores. Students who have SAT Critical Reading scores of 520 or higher can exempt the reading and writing portion of the placement test; SAT Math scores of 600 or higher can exempt the math portion of the placement test. ACT scores of 21 or higher in Reading, Writing, and Math can also exempt the placement test. Students must submit copies of the SAT or ACT scores to exempt placement testing. *NOTE* Any student wishing to enroll in MAT 172 (Precalculus Trigonometry) or any higher level math course must take the math portion of the placement test regardless of SAT or ACT scores.
- Upon completion of the admissions process (Wake Tech application and appropriate testing), the student must complete a dual enrollment form. Students attending public high schools will obtain and complete a dual enrollment form from their high school counselor. Private and home-schooled students must obtain and complete a dual enrollment form from Wake Tech. Dual enrollment forms cannot be accepted until they are filled out completely and signed by all appropriate parties. Continuing dual enrollment students must complete a new dual enrollment form prior to each semester they plan to attend Wake Tech.
- Dual enrollment students may not enroll in any pre-curriculum courses. These courses are identifiable by their course number starting with a “0” (ex. MAT 060, ENG 090, etc.). These courses are designed to help students who have already earned a high school diploma or GED to develop their academic skills before proceeding with their college level coursework.
- Tuition for college credit courses is waived for dual enrollment high school students. All other fees must be paid, and the student is responsible for the purchase of books. Dual enrollment high school students are required to pay tuition for non-credit Continuing Education courses.
- I understand that a complete and accurate Dual Enrollment form must be submitted for each semester that the dual enrollment high student attends Wake Tech. The completed form must be submitted prior to registration for any courses. If the completed dual form is not submitted, the student’s course(s) will be deleted, and the student will not be allowed to attend classes.
- I understand that dual enrollment high school students may only register for courses that have been pre-approved on the Dual Enrollment Form. If a student registers for a course that has not been approved on the Dual Enrollment form, they will be deleted from the course.
